Tune in to UPtv on Friday nights at 9 p.m. (EST) this summer and you might spot some familiar names. Through August, wedding filmmakers Nick Wilson and Colin Rieser of Blue Kite Cinema—the same guys who won first place in WPPI’s The Annual Wedding Filmmaking category last year—are presenting Our Wedding Story, the latest addition to the family-friendly network that features uplifting love stories in ten episodes.

After the duo nurtured a years-long email relationship with an UPtv executive, they were essentially handed Season 1, and the show was greenlit last December. Wilson and Rieser then raced to create it in six months. “For us, it was about finding unique and uplifting stories to tell,” Wilson says, “no matter where they occurred,” including a luxury wedding in Laguna Beach, week-long festivities in Fiji and DIY nuptials in Savannah, Georgia.

The pair relied on their signature cinematic, dialogue-driven film style for the half-hour episodes, but then got to add “mini stories” as well. “It was important that we didn’t stray from our normal process in filming weddings,” Wilson notes, “so the two of us lead all the shoots. But given the scope of the project, we needed to expand the team,” so friend and cinematographer Grant Bell assisted, as did Blue Kite production coordinator Meg Buzza. The team has danced on stage at dueling piano bars in Savannah, zipped around by boat on a couple’s lake in Minnesota and been surprised with matching tropical shirts in the Dominican Republic.

“Being able to share these love stories, to see the excitement from couples and, most importantly, to be able to make people cry—it’s crazy to us,” Wilson says. “But seriously, we genuinely and wholeheartedly just want to make people sob like babies. It’s our favorite thing ever. Sob with us.”
