This client wanted to create a boudoir album as a gift to her fiancé, so she went online and searched for photographers in her area. That’s how she stumbled upon Washington, D.C.-based photographer Jennifer James of SuperNova Boudoir. Though they had never worked together, James says she clicked with the client right away.

For this shot, James stepped into the en-suite bathroom next to the guest bedroom in her home. Using a medium-sized reflector to bounce back light on to her client, James offered some posing ideas. “I had her bring the sheets up to her breasts and tip her head sideways just so, because I wanted to give the image that feeling of waiting for her lover,” she says. As she was shooting from the bathroom, James shut the door almost all the way, then positioned her camera as if she was peeking in from behind the door. Says James, “I really love the curvature of her spine to her bum because it catches the backlighting from the window amazingly, and I find bodyscaping like this just stunningly beautiful.”
