Pouline Gernes used to hang around fashion shows as a street photographer before finding her way to weddings, but even in her new genre, she is still “chasing moments that last for just a split second,” she says, “and I truly do love that hunt.” Focusing on beauty, emotion and movement, Gernes aims to keep her “artistic documentary” work timeless and nostalgic, which is why she gravitates toward black and white—and limits her color palette. A Nikon photographer who shoots film on her Minolta and Contax T2, she will occasionally bring her Polaroid 600 or Fujifilm Instax Wide with her as well.
