“This is the story of a wonderful Jewish marriage in Rome,” says Italian wedding photographer David Bastianoni. “As a photographer who works abroad as well as in Italy with spouses who come from foreign countries, I am used to covering the rituals and ceremonies that bask in detail, organization, words, religious beliefs and customs. Each time it means discovering a different world, another way of celebrating love on the wedding day.”

Couple Margaux and Benjamin’s Rome wedding was not the first Jewish marriage Bastianoni has covered, but he says it did stand out as an extra special experience for him, especially since the couple chose the dream venue of Villa Miani, with its stunning panoramic views and well-manicured surroundings. “This neoclassical villa, built in the late-nineteenth century and surrounded by an elegant garden and a refined lawn, was the perfect setting for the day that wedding planner Stefania Zen envisioned and put together,” he says. “The enchanting view over Rome gave a magic touch at the time of the celebration, as well as at the wild dances that—together with the traditional, ritual-based dances, like the Hora—animated the night.”

Bastianoni says his main approach is a photoreportage style, which means he tries to not to intrude. “I try to remain on the margins of the action—but not too much not to lose the important shotsso that my presence is not perceived as a hindrance, interference or nuisance,” he explains.

He especially loved the preparation of bride and groom during the getting ready phase, and capturing the details of the sumptuous bridal dress embellished with lace.

“Instants of the most intense moments of the ceremony—the exchange of the rings and the blessing of the rabbi under the traditional canopy—included the many smiles and the many tears of an intense and sincere emotional day,” says Bastianoni. “I loved seeing the hugs that welcomed the spouses and the joy of that day lived with loved ones.”

“The beautiful album for Margaux and Benjamin’s wedding was printed by our friends at Floricolor,” adds Bastianoni. “The Antique Collection is the first album by Floricolor with cover and back cover made with wood. The colors and texture of the wood (Natural, Black and Oak) give to this collection an antique and rustic look. This album was printed on velvet photo paper and won First Place in the WPPI Honors of Excellence Awards for Album Division/Album/Wedding Multiple Photographers.”
