Kuala Lumpur-based destination shooter Qay, one of Rf‘s 30 Rising Stars of 2017, is driven by his passion to document weddings all over the world. Here, he showcases the nuptials of Yuna (a Malaysian singer based in L.A.) and her groom, Adam.

Of course, even in the most magical of settings, challenges can arise. “During the initial meeting, we had a discussion and a list of who is going to be there to document her wedding,” Qay explains, “but during the day itself, a few unknown photographers not on the list appeared and started documenting the event as well. Being a professional myself and wanting to avoid any disturbance during my own coverage, I advised them please stop and put down their cameras…and they did.”

The weather was a bit of a challenge as well, Qay recalls, as rain began to fall at the outdoor wedding. “Patience is the key,” he advises, “and I have a magical image due to the rain. The fog was just in place when I captured this [below] and lasted for 15 minutes after the rain. Beautiful.”

Says Qay: “This is their first couple’s portrait as husband and wife [above] and all the love and emotion is there—it’s one of my favorites.”
