Anyone who documents Indian weddings knows that there are lots of moving parts, long hours (sometimes multi-day coverage) and various rituals to make sure to include. But for Payal and Vince’s wedding, photographer Janine Licare says everything ran surprisingly smoothly, especially since her day started at 6 a.m and ended at 10:30 p.m.

“The most challenging part was their first look getting pushed back and cutting into the portrait time,” Licare explains. “The first look was scheduled to happen around 9 a.m., with the Baarat starting at 9:30 a.m. and the main ceremony starting at 10 a.m. Shifting timelines is fairly common on weddings days, so I’m always prepared for that to happen. We ended up only having about 5 minutes for the first look and portraits, but I’m so happy with the ones we got during that time—they’re some of my favorite images of the day. Five minutes for portraits is not the time to experiment with new ideas and get creative. It came down to sticking to the basics, focusing on them, and capturing their love for each other. “

Licare says that while she typically gravitates towards her brides’ details, the groom’s were incredible, too. “His shoes were custom-made and hand-embroidered, and the necklace he wore was strung with over 100 pearls. The pin went on his turban and the pocket square was also a perfect match to the fabric that was used for his turban. This image sets the color palette for much of the day.”

Licare also loved how the hundreds of hanging tin stars “added dimension and emphasized the magnitude of the 40-foot tent.”

The sunset portraits of Payal and Vince in their second outfit was one of Licare’s favorite moments of the day. “By the time we took these images, it had already been a fast-paced day filled with lots of events. I love these photos because this was the final stretch for them. After this, they’d get to relax for the rest of the evening with their family and guests during the reception.”
