It’s a common perception that kids spend a ton of time with their faces glued to their phones (and to be fair, adults aren’t that much better). But on the eve of WPPI 2018, where, among other things, we celebrate the Power of Print, the market research firm Futuresource Consulting has some surprising news: these phone-addled millennials are actually much more likely to be printing their photos than other age groups.

Futuresource looked at the printing habits of a range of age groups only to discover that those under 36 years old were the most likely group to be printing. In fact, 78 percent of them had made a print at home or from a third party service over the past 12 months.

As the grouping got older, the propensity to print actually declined: 68 percent of 36-45 year olds reported printing over the past 12 months vs.  48 percent of 46-55 year olds and 43 percent of those 55 and older.

“The findings of the report have disproved a theory that the younger generation are not interested in photo printing. In fact, the millennials were the most likely age group to be printing photos,” writes Ruben Baveld, Research Analyst at Futuresource Consulting, in a release announcing the findings.

The upshot is that if you’re selling prints (and you should be), it looks like younger generations really appreciate what it means to have a tangible image. Kids today.
