Did you see our most recent Photos of the Day? In our daily series highlighting some of the most interesting images in wedding and portrait photography, the editorial staff asks the creatives behind the photos to detail the backstory and technical approach. Here’s what caught our eye this week.

Looking For Unusual City Spots for Couple’s Wedding Portraits

After a day of location-scouting around the inner city of Wellington, New Zealand, Ana Galloway didn’t completely pack it in. Having not spotted where she wanted to take the newlyweds on the following day, she was heading back to her car when she saw. “I instantly knew this was the spot,” Galloway says.

Double Exposure Gives Layers to Photographer’s Narrative Concept

Jazreel Hong of Justrealle Photography loves film, so when he found a couple that loves it too, he decided to play around with aesthetics and shoot an in-camera double exposure. The effect is a narrative twist on concealed sight: “I came up with the idea of using their hands to ‘cover’ their eyes,” he says.

A Cruise Wedding Takes Photographer on New Adventures

Sebastian Bravo of Arte Visual MF went on a cruise for the first time with a couple tying the knot, to three countries he had never visited before. How’s that for new experiences?

Bridal Couple’s Genuine Happiness with Prompt to Dance

Do you know the moves to “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”? The song, which came out back in 2007, created what some consider to be the biggest dance fad since the Macarena. At their reception, the newlyweds had skipped off with photographer Seth Sanker of Seth & Co to catch some sunset portraits when they suddenly heard the looping steelpan riff over the DJ’s speakers. “I told them to dance to it,” Sanker says, and that they did.

Opting for Emotional Elopement Over Traditional Asian Wedding Customs

Rather than go for “still and posey wedding photos” in a studio, as many asian couples do in the wedding photography market, Singapore-based photographers Kenny and Daniel of Wanderlust Dream threw out a more adventurous idea to their soon-to-be newlyweds: to fly to Vietnam together for an elopement. “It is a very meaningful and unforgettable memory that we want to create for each of our couples,” they say, “and hopefully we can bring this message out to asian couples as well!”
