Mystery and Movement

There’s nothing like the energy that comes from the bride, groom, family and friends at a wedding. It’s electric. And while it may be nerve-wracking to be photographed—especially with artificial lights flashing—there are still many opportunities for subjects to be captured beautifully and gracefully at a wedding, as evidenced by this image of the groom’s sister, captured in the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Nice, France, by Anna Ambrosi of Bianco Photography.

“I loved her dress, and I had seen her dancing with her mother and sister several other times during the three-day celebration,” Ambrosi remarks. Armed with a Profoto B1 and a 180cm Rotalux softbox, the photographer asked her to do a twirl in front of the camera. “Probably the hardest part about making this image was making the whole thing look natural, which isn’t easy when you’re shooting with a softbox. It isn’t exactly the most ordinary situation,” Ambrosi says, but she often tells her clients that her goal is to create beautiful memories to celebrate the occasion, so everyone is usually on the same page. “We both wanted to create something beautiful to celebrate such a unique moment.”

In the end, the final frame accentuates the beautiful dress, the details of the venue and, adds Ambrosi, “I love the fact that her face is hidden. It gives the whole frame some mystery and it allows the eye to concentrate on the movement and embroidered details.”
