This was JB Sallee‘s first attempt at underwater photography, and as such, he says, his “biggest challenge was staying underwater for more than 10 seconds and not floating up to the top.”

Sallee, a wedding and portrait photographer who also does maternity shoots, gave his subject instructions before they both got into the water, describing the type of pose he was after. “She would swim to the bottom of our pool and then slowly float up and I would grab two shots each time,” he says. “We did this about 20 times and came away with five amazing images.” He says he named the image “Time Traveler’s Wife” because “it looks like she was looking into another dimension, and the air bubbles look like stars.”
