It was August—the middle of busy wedding season—when photographer Simona Cannone of Zonzo Photography needed some inspiration to get her out of a creative rut. “I really need a time for me to experiment without fear of judgement,” the photographer says. So on a rare rainy day in her hometown of Abruzzo, Italy, she contacted model Andrea and asked to meet at the town’s iconic lighthouse.

“At the exact time we met, it started to rain,” Cannone says. “We took shelter in an old bus stop where we made our introductions (we had never met before), and we decided to wait for the rain to pass.” After five minutes, the rain had only become more severe, so the duo decided to make due with what they had. “We saw this big hole in the window and decided to play a little. We changed expressions and positions and eventually, this photo just hit us both. It’s like a scene straight out of a good movie. I love the fact that you can imagine there is a story going on and you are just watching a frame and wondering how it came to this point.”
