The Confetti Toss

This bride went above and beyond to perfect the tiniest details on her wedding day, including hole-punching miniature confetti-stars by hand. Once the big day came around, though, she was told she wouldn’t be allowed to throw the confetti outside of the wedding venue, the Museum of the Order of St. John in London. Says photographer Emilie White: “We opted to toss them in the ceremony room instead because we were not going to let it all go to waste!”

Once the couple said their I do’s, this moment came together perfectly—the confetti, the motion from the guests and the slight contradiction between the stern portraits in the background and the jubilant newlyweds in the foreground. “It brings an interesting contrast with my couple, especially with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth overlooking them and the bride’s dreamy and chic wedding dress,” White explains.

All in all, this photograph is one for the books—it took first place in Rangefinder‘s 2018 Wedding contest. White says she’s not sure if she’ll ever be able to capture such a confetti-filled moment again, though. “Funny fact,” she explains, “I’ve been told that the venue now also refuses to have confetti tossed inside as they spent months picking up the little stars!”
