Shadows of Mystery

Photographer Zabrina Deng took this during a “photography glamping event” called Kando, hosted by Sony, on a film noir set “with lots of nostalgic props and dramatic lighting in the environment,” she says. “I wanted to take a different approach for this portrait.”

Not overtly film noir-esque, this photo was instead meant to convey a sense of mystery, “thus having her eyes closed and half of her face and body in shadow,” Deng says. “All women carry different facets daily—sometimes we reveal more, sometimes we reveal less. Not knowing too much about the model, I felt conveying this mood of mystery authentically reflected my view.”

(Shot on a Sony a7 III and 50mm f/1.4 lens at f/1.8, 1/8000 sec and ISO 2000.)
