Taken from a day in the life of a high school senior whose mom, Amy Wellenkamp, happens to be a professional photographer, this image—and the others borne out of the shoot—signify two creative souls embarking on an adventure with some concrete plans and ideas, but also allowing room for spontaneity.

“I have been taking senior photographs for over 15 years,” says Wellenkamp. “Most of the images from this shoot were Claire’s idea. She was very involved in the process and started making her shot list two years ago. Her career path is marine biology and you will see her connection with the sea in most of the photos, taken at Hartford Pier in Avila Beach, California.”
