Meet Yvonne and Declan. “They are a funny, easygoing couple and it was great spending time together while portraying their intimacy, love and affection even before the wedding, which kept getting postponed due to the current events occurring in the world right now,” says Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia-based destination wedding photographer Ameirfikri.

The couple, says the photographer, was supposed to get married for the last few days but, “because we are all currently under movement restrictions, they had to keep postponing. My heart is breaking for these couples who have to cancel their weddings due to COVID-19.”

Wedding photographers especially know how hard it is rescheduling dates, contacting vendors, having to deal with flight cancellations, etc. “For this reason, we are currently facing this scary moment together, financially and emotionally,” says Ameirfikri. “Obviously I feel saddened for them and also saddened as a business owner. The wedding industry has been hit hard by COVID-19; too many photographers running small businesses have very small reserves. You have to think of ways to survive and grow.”

Despite all the ups and downs, Ameirfikri encourages everyone—photographers, event planners other wedding vendors—to “encourage our lovely couples to postpone their weddings rather than cancel them completely. At least, this can prevent some of us in this industry from shuttering or losing jobs.”

As he puts it: “Don’t let your dreams be dreams. Make it happen.”
