Photographer Brandon Scott was called to the forests of Big Sur to shoot this couple’s wedding, an intimate affair with a small group of family and friends. Familiar with the area, Scott took them to a redwood grove within walking distance of their venue for some couple’s portraits. Though overcast and chilly that day, he found a beam of light in which to pose them.

“I had them stand with each other where this path forked—so symbolic,” Scott adds with a laugh, “and suddenly, the bride was like, ‘Oof, I need to sneeze!’ and twitched her cute little nose like that. That’s the one I loved. It was so reflective of her quirky personality too. I’m so curious when I see photos like this on Instagram, thinking, what on earth could the photographer have said that made them do that? I have to remember that most of the time it’s just a happy little accident.”
