Photo of the Day

Eye-Catching Portraits and Photos of the Week for Feb. 27

This week, we celebrate images that evoke painterly feels, have artistic touches, and convey timeless moments.

Rebecca Lueck of Becca Jean Photography in Portland, Oregon, says she likes to incorporate movement in her images. “I asked the mom to spin with her son here. I love the way her hair was flowing so it looked like a windy, foggy day at the beach.”

This next image, also by Rebecca Lueck (who also offers her clients video), was also taken at Cannon Beach. “I’m an adventure photographer, so I love getting pullback images to show off the landscape,” she explains. “I also really love experimenting with sun placement, so I placed the sun off to the right slightly and made sure it was partially blocked by the horizon to create a sunburst effect.”

Dallas Kolotylo of Dallas & Sabrina Photography says the photo duo were photographing the couple below inside the Audain Art Museum in Whistler in British Columbia, Canada. “The museum is known for its interesting architecture and we were trying to incorporate that into the photos as much as we could,” says Dallas. “I noticed that their reflection on these stainless steel panels of the stairway looked really interesting, and I asked them to walk up to the top of the stairs where two of the panels connected into each other at an angle which exaggerated the reflection. The first photo looked like a crazy double exposure but with only one shot, so I decided to turn the camera upside down and see what that would look like, and this is the result!”

Dallas continues: “I like that this photo came about just because I saw something random and decided to see where it would go. I find that the more professional work I do the easier it is to be formulaic and just do what I know works. This photo helps me to remember that being creative, or even just trying to be creative for the sake of it can give you some of the best results.”

We at Rangefinder wondered what he and Sabrina’s clients thought of this type of artistic photo? “Our clients love it when we come up with one of a kind images that capture the emotion of their day, and this couple in particular really wanted us to incorporate the architecture of the Audain Museum in their photos so they loved it.”

The image below was photographed by Enrique Gil of Arte Extremeño Fotógrafo de Bodas in Spain. It was taken at Mont Saint-Michel in France with a Fuji XT-4 and 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR lens. We love the majestic feel!

Samantha Everly of Everly Collective says that the painterly image below was taken during the bride and groom’s first moments after they were officially named husband and wife. “You could see how many beautiful emotions they were feeling,” says Everly, “and I wanted to portray how they must have felt in a physical way. Here they are bonded together—Rachel swept up in Stephen’s arms and locked in on the other’s gaze, all while the environment around them dances.” We love these types of timeless moments!
