Elopement at the Spanish Marble Quarry

This couple had spent months planning for their elopement, which took place at an old marble quarry in Valencia, Spain. To execute their vision, they hired a wedding planner who ultimately put them in touch with photographer Carlos Lucca, a Spanish native who was completely on board with their vision of an adventurous yet beautiful and stylized ceremony.

On the big day, Lucca didn’t need to do much directing. “They were naturally embracing and showing emotion,” he says. This particular frame was captured toward the top of the quarry under harsh sunlight—conditions Lucca figured weren’t ideal. “I usually try to shoot at dusk,” he says. “But I love the challenge this presented, and my intuition knew that we’d still get a good result.”

Luckily all of the couple’s planning paid off and the resulting images are timeless expressions of their love and taste. “My favorite part about this shoot is the visual depth and how well the elements combined for this wonderful couple,” Lucca notes. “From the clothing to the floral choice and the tone—for me, it all generates a visual spectrum that’s very different from what we are used to seeing.”
