In the Comfort of Home

November 2, 2017

By Stacey Goldberg

For this Indian wedding, the bride broke traditional norms by choosing to get ready in her parents’ house instead of at a hotel or salon. This particular image was captured in the bride’s childhood bedroom in the city of Una, located in northern India, and as such, photographers Nitin and Sandeep of Shutterink Photography wanted to photograph the personal details of the room.

“We wanted to create an image that has more meaningful context for the bride,” they say, “so we started playing with the framing, including the curtains and window panes.”

It was twilight outside as this bride got ready to take her vows, so Nitin and Sandeep placed a flash outside the window and lit the bride with a softbox. “Luckily with just a couple of tries, we were able to frame the kalide (the jewelry hanging from her wrists) to create good separation,” the duo explains. “The hand positions, the jewelry positions, the curtains, the highlights—we love everything about this image.”

(Captured using a Canon 5D Mark III and 35mm lens at f/7.1, 1/80th of a second and ISO 320, with Godox V850 flashes.)
