Behind the Scenes of Love

One of the greatest advantages of working with two shooters is having the opportunity to take risks. That’s exactly how this wedding photo came to be, notes documentary wedding photographer Juan Carlos Calderón of Car & Mel photography, who snuck behind the bride and groom at this venue in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, during the best man speech while his wife and co-shooter, Melissa, concentrated on getting “the safe shot.”

“Melissa and I change locations depending on the opportunities each one of us has,” Calderón says. “Sometimes I might go for the safe shot if she feels there’s a chance to grab a great shot as well.”

Says Calderón, “What I love the most about this photo is the physicality and tenderness of the bride, Katriana, showing how loving and protective she is of the groom, Sam. They demonstrate their love and true connection as lovers and friends very naturally.”

(Captured using a Nikon D750 with a NIKKOR 35mm f/2D lens and two Nikon SB-700 speedlites, one illuminating the best man and the other to the left of the bride.)
