Photographer Katherine Millett of Kate Michaud Photography was moved by what she heard during couple Kayla and Craig’s wedding ceremony. “At one point, Craig referred to Kayla as an angel in his vows. That stuck with me all day,” Millett recalls. So when it came time to take post-wedding portraits, she used that sentiment as inspiration for some creative portraiture.

The session, which took place at the King’s Hill Inn & Barn in Paris, Maine, was unfortunately rushed due to the setting sun and pressure to get the couple back to their reception. “The toughest part was pushing past the ‘we-only-have-four-minutes’ vibe and into the ‘let’s-make-magic’ vibe,” Millett says. She asked the couple to get close—”like their bodies were magnets”—as Millett’s wife dimmed an LED light in the background. That’s when this image came to life, Millett explains, “and it felt like their whole day had come full circle.”
