Photographer Saša Tomić was just about done with this couple’s post-ceremony portrait session at the Excelsior Hotel in Dubrovnik, Croatia, when he had an idea for one last shot. “I decided to go back to the terrace of the hotel and create one wider shot of the bride and groom while they were walking,” Tomić says.

Once he found a spot overlooking the couple, Tomić used the walls of the terrace to symmetrically frame the newlyweds. Shooting wide open at f/1.4, the photographer said he only had one chance to nail this shot. “The bride and groom were in a hurry to get to their reception, so it was a little stressful to get this photo with just one attempt,” he recalls. Luckily, he nailed the framing and caught the couple as they walked and were illuminated by the beautiful natural light. To remove any distractions and “because the color of the sea and stone walls looked washed out,” he decided to make the final shot black and white in post.
