A Moment at Moraine Lake

Jess Craven of Daring Wanderer was asked by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law to photograph their elopement to Banff National Park. “We woke up at 3:30 a.m. to get ready in our tents at the campground we were staying at and then drove to Moraine Lake before sunrise so we could get a parking spot,” Craven explains. Having done her homework, she knew that once the tiny parking lot fills up, cars are turned away and people are asked to take a shuttle to the lake, which can waste time and valuable morning light.

Once there, Craven recalls, “I turned around and saw this beautiful landscape behind me, opposite the lake, and knew I had to get a shot of it. I asked my brother-in-law, Paul, to go stand over on the rock. He was carrying the bouquet and stood there while I pretended to adjust my settings. I love the light, how he isn’t looking at the camera or staring off longingly. He’s just standing there, checking out the bouquet but in glorious light.”
