Tamron’s New Telephoto Lens Will Be the Lightest In Its Class

Telephoto lenses are known for many things, but being lightweight isn’t typically one of them.

Tamron is readying a new 100-400mm full frame DSLR lens for the end of the year that looks to lesson the load.

The 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD zoom lens (Model A035) will be the lightest lens in its class at 39.3 ounces. Despite its lightweight build, it will be moisture resistant with fluorine coating on the front lens element to make it easier to clean.

The new lens will feature Vibration Compensation, eBand coating and a dual micro-processing units to drive autofocus. It will focus on objects as close as 59-inches with a magnification ratio of 1:3.6.

You can use Tamron’s 1.4x teleconverter with the new 100-400mm as well as the TAP-in Console for firmware updates and other lens tweaks.

Pricing for the new lens wasn’t announced but Tamron says it should be ready to go by the end of 2017.
