It's one thing to tuck a small, portable hard drive in your camera bag, but what do you do if you need more than a few TB of storage? For those of us working on 4K video productions that demand huge capacities for storing and editing digital media, this is often a major challenge. Fortunately, G-Technology has announced what may be the perfect solution for taking a RAID system on the road.
Enter the G-SPEED Shuttle XL and the G-SPEED Shuttle XL with ev Series Bay Adapters. Both offer 8-bays, are equipped with integrated handles, measure 9.8 x 6.9 x 15.7 inches and should fit neatly into standard-sized Pelican cases such as the 1510 model. Equipped with two Thunderbolt 2 ports, these storage systems can support multi-stream 4K workflows. They're also cross-platform for Mac and Windows compatibility and can be configured in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 (they're configured to RAID 5 out of the box).
The G-SPEED Shuttle XL ships with eight enterprise-class, removable 7200 RPM drives that can reach transfer rates of up to 1350MB/s and can hold capacities of up to 64TB.
Alternatively, two of the G-SPEED Shuttle XL with ev Series Bay Adapters' bays are compatible with G-Tech's portable external drives for a total capacity of up to 48TB, with maximum transfer speeds up to 1200MB/s.
Starting at $3,300, these storage devices aren't cheap, but given their portability, transfer speeds and huge capacities, G-Technology is providing products that will keep pace with even the most demanding projects today and in the future.
