Meet Canon’s New 6D Mark II and Rebel SL2

June 29, 2017

By Greg Scoblete

Summer is usually a time for sequels and Canon is delivering a pair of them in the  EOS 6D Mark II (a follow-up to the 6D) and the Rebel SL2 (a successor to the SL1).

The EOS 6D Mark II sports a 26.2-megapixel full frame CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF and a DIGIC 7 processor. There are 45 all cross-type AF points with a working range of down to -3 EV.

It offers a native ISO range of 100-40,000 with expansion options that push the ISO range from 50 to 102,400.

The 6D Mark II is Canon’s first full frame DSLR to sport a vari-angle 3-inch touchscreen display. The camera can burst at up to 6.5 fps with focus locked on the first frame.

Additional features include:

  • 1/4000 sec. top mechanical shutter speed
  • Built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth and GPS
  • Built-in flash
  • Full HD/60p video recording
  • Dust and water-resistant build

The EOS 6D Mark II will ship in late July with a body-only price of $1,999. It is available for pre-order now. For $3,099 you can buy the 6D Mark II with the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM II lens and for $2,599, the camera with the EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 STM lens.

EOS Rebel SL2

Also due in late July is the new EOS Rebel SL2. The new Rebel boasts what Canon is claiming as the world’s fastest AF speed at .03 seconds.

The 24-megapixel APS-C DSLR features Dual Pixel CMOS AF, a 3-inch vari-angle display and full HD/60p video recording. To help newcomers to DSLR photography, Canon has added a “feature assistant” mode which demonstrates the effects various settings have on images on the display.

Like the 6D Mark II, the Rebel SL2 is equipped with Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth. It’s driven by the DIGIC 7 processor and has a native ISO range of 100-25,600. There are 9 AF points and the Rebel will burst at up to 5 fps.

The Rebel SL2 will retail for $550 for the body or for $700 with the Canon EF-S 18-55m f/4-5.6 IS STM lens. It is available for pre-order now.
