Got Gear? Tenba’s Got a Brand New Backpack

One of the greatest travel inventions, in my opinion, is expandable luggage. You can pack extra stuff and still meet airline regulations (usually) and, if you’re a conservative packer, you have room to bring home even more stuff from your trip.

Along the same lines, Tenba has just released a new expandable camera backpack: the DNA 15. With its roll top, you can fit as much (or as little) stuff as you need or want to carry. (George Carlin would love it.)

A removable camera insert can hold a mirrorless camera with three or four lenses or a DSLR with up to three lenses—including a 70-200m f/2.8 lens. You have the option of placing the insert at the bottom of the pack or at the top of the pack for quick and easy access to your gear.

Of course, if you decide to travel or hike without your camera gear, just take out the insert and compartment divider for more room.

There’s plenty of storage for other necessities inside and out, including a padded sleeve for up to a 15-inch laptop, lots of assorted pockets and, on the side of the pack, an elasticized mesh pocket for a water bottle.

I’m intrigued by the Pivot-Fit Harness Straps that automatically adjust to different shoulder shapes and like the idea of a magnetic clip to help eliminate pinched fingers from standard closures.

In addition to a rear trolley strap, the DNA 15 Backpack has a removable hip belt so you won’t be dangling extra straps when you don’t need them.

There are weather-proofing features including water repellant coating, a waterproof tarpaulin bottom panel and a WeatherWrap rain cover. The rain cover is removable and reversible, so even when it’s not raining you can reflect the sun with its silver side or turn it inside out keep the gear cozy and warm with the black cover.

At $200, the price is pretty sweet, too.
