WPPI is proud to be hosting several new instructors at the 2018 Conference and Expo. In an industry that’s constantly changing, our goal is to provide attendees with instructors that are thriving in today’s market and can share some of the secrets to their success. Here, Lisa Saad explains the success she’s found by developing a signature style. Don’t miss her presentation taking place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. See you there!

WPPI: How would you define your own signature style?
Lisa Saad: My signature style is a mixture of camera technique, photographic technique and Photoshop technique. I give the images an illustrative photographic style which is very unique, clean and imaginative. I would define the style as new and groundbreaking, yet familiar and very story driven.

WPPI: How do you use that signature style to help build and promote your brand?
LS: I tend to keep things simple yet consistent. I have developed a consistent look so that my recent images are now recognizable as my style, which in turn is now synonymous with my branding.

WPPI: What mistakes do you see emerging photographers making when it comes to branding and how can they correct some of those errors?
LS: I don’t think some emerging photographers are giving too much consideration as to why or how they are shooting, and they’re not taking time to define their style. Most seem to be shooting or reacting to something they may have seen on social media so they are looking at copying or emulating a style. If they wanted to correct or find out where they fit photographically, then I would suggest that they explore, discover and develop their own style, make mistakes and learn from them. The deeper the discovery they have then the deeper their image-making skills will be.

WPPI:  If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be and why?
LS: I would be a chef or a veterinarian. A chef because I like to cook and experiment with food and a veterinarian because I love animals and would love to understand how I can help them.
