Though a perfectionist herself, Nicole Mason isn’t a fan of perfect moments. “My approach is quieter than most, I think,” says the Canon photographer, who is extra mindful of creating a consistent mood and color palette that gives her work a certain cinematic flair. A studio art graduate from Houghton College, she learned lighting and composition early, and now, even without a camera in hand, those things are on her mind wherever she looks. Inspired by fashion, design and minimalism, she’s not too concerned with gear, she says, but she will pull out her Fujifilm Instax Wide film camera when the occasion calls for it.
