Big Bold Brisbane Wedding at Iconic St Brigid’s Church

July 7, 2020

Giang and Lien’s Vietnamese wedding in Brisbane in Australia was a big, bold involved one, says wedding photographer Eric Wang.

“We started the day with a traditional tea ceremony—and less traditional Hennessy shots—before heading over to the massive and iconic St Brigid’s Church in Red Hill [below].”

It was there, In front of their family and friends that Giang and Lien tied the knot in a Catholic/Vietnamese wedding ceremony. “We then rushed over for a few shots at Garden’s Points, before finishing off a huge day at their reception over at Brisbane Convention Centre,” Wang adds.

As gigantic as their wedding was, it wasn’t tiring or stressful. “Lien and Giang are chill, relaxed, and playful, and they made the day a breeze,” says Wang. “Lien’s got a heart of gold, and Giang’s just a little bit cheeky; it felt like a bunch of friends hanging out at a Vietnamese wedding…even if it was alongside their 300 guests.”

One of the biggest challenges for this wedding day, says Wang, was definitely the sheer amount of guests and all the events taking place. “After the tea ceremony and group photos, it was only 9:30 a.m. and I had already taken 1,500 photos! Their reception was extremely large, which made it tough to cover everything, especially being a solo shooter. But I wasn’t really concerned with it at the time, I was having fun mingling with guests and family, and Lien and Giang were extremely easygoing, down-to-earth, and fun to be with.”

The long Catholic wedding ceremony ran over, which Wang says cut into bridal party portraits, so he had to rush through them in a short amount of time. “But by then I had already built a relationship and rapport with Lien and Giang, so they trusted me with my ideas and were comfortable with me. We bounced off each other’s personality, so it was a breeze.”

It just goes to show, he sums up, that every wedding is completely different, “which is part of the reason why I love photographing them. Lien and Giang’s laid back personality was why the wedding was so enjoyable, and they weren’t stressed at all (at least, they didn’t show it) and could still have fun and enjoy their 15-hour wedding.”
