Vancouver-based bride and groom Anna and Rick brought their closest family and friends to celebrate their boho wedding at The Lazy Olive, an enchanting Tuscan villa in Italy that included a ceremony overlooking the hills, followed by a sunset cocktail hour and a dinner under the moonlight.

“We documented another wedding in Italy the year before,” says Zagreb, Croatia-based photographer Nina Anic, “and Italy’s charm is surely present from north to south, but this Chianti region in Tuscany is something else. In an other parallel universe, I’m certain I’m living a life on a Tuscan hill, waking up every morning looking stunning in my silk house gown, enjoying an Italian breakfast and amazing views.”

The venue, Anic continues, “is a vacation home, hosted by couple Daniela and Malcolm, who found the place as ruins dating back to the 16th century and made of it a true gem for low-key weddings. Locally sourced cuisine and and a 360-degree view, terra-cotta and stone, olive trees and fairy lights—this place feels like you’re back in time.”

The only real challenge the photographer faced, she says, was that because it was a very small wedding of only 20 people, she couldn’t help but wonder how big a deal it is to actually be allowed to spend such a day in someone’s life around them. “Often, my biggest challenge at a wedding (being introverted myself) is to make sure to document everything, but without being too much in people’s faces and let them still have that intimate feel of a family gathering.”

“I’m immensely grateful to Anna and Rick, especially Anna, who has recognized my enthusiasm about her wedding day and trusted us with her wedding-day memories,” Anic sums up. “This was a picture-perfect wedding—so meaningful, authentic and with such genuine, loving people. Photographing that was fireworks all day long. Grazie mille, dear A&R.”
