Often, there’s only a short amount of time for photographers to bond with a new couple or find out just how willing they’d be to do something out of the ordinary to capture a unique and amazing shot. That wasn’t the case here for Fer Juaristi, an Rf 30 Rising Star from 2012. As it turns out, Juaristi had met the groom, a fellow wedding photographer, at a photography convention in Stockholm the previous year. “I posted on Facebook that I was traveling to [Venice, Italy], and wanted to do a few test shoots and he contacted me,” Juaristi says.

This image in particular was one of the photographer’s favorites of the day. “I love the tones,” Juaristi says. “It feels like a still from an Italian movie made in the 1950s!” To capture the moment, Juaristi says he may have tested the limits just a bit too far by “borrowing” a bench from a local home. The shoot went off without a hitch, however, “one of the locals gave us a bit of a fight for using the bench without permission,” he recalls. In the end, the trouble was worth it, Juaristi says. “The bride was just about to graduate from medical school, and this photo shoot was my gift to them.”
