This bride couldn’t help but get a little emotional when she was handed her bridal bouquet—it contained a small picture of her dad, who had passed away several years earlier.

Photographer Ana Paula Lobato had been tipped off about the photo being placed in the bouquet, so she knew this emotional moment was coming as the bride waited in a car parked outside the wedding venue in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The photographer placed an LED light on the right side of the car to get more dramatic lighting. “Photographing emotions with the perfect light is always challenging since it all happens so quickly,” she says. “Since I knew about the situation ahead of time, I was able to get ahead of it. In the end though, it’s not the light that I love most about this frame—it’s the bride’s true expression. It’s a mix of happiness about her wedding and sadness of not having her dad with her for the big day.”
