The Perfect Shot That Almost Didn’t Happen

February 28, 2020

When Vanessa Joy was looking for the perfect area for this couple’s bridal portrait at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in New Jersey, they almost missed this spot completely. They were in golf carts driving all over the course when suddenly this happened.

“I still remember randomly pulling over to the side of the path when I saw this intense and crazy sky,” says Joy. “I just had to stop and make them get out to take a portrait here.”

And although she says she often get asked, it’s not Photoshop, it was just her playing with light to make the sky pop. “This is what the sky actually looked like!”

(Photographed with a Canon 1D Mark II and 35mm lens at f/3.5
1/320 of a sec. at ISO 800 and a Profoto A1 behind the couple and a B2 with a beauty dish off to the left.)
