Details, details. When it comes to prepping for coverage points on the big day, it’s just as wise for wedding photographers to ask about any memorable tokens or objects that mean something to the bride and groom as it is to know of meaningful relationships and connections.

“During our first meeting with this bride, she expressed her excitement about the custom hat her milliner in New York City was creating for her wedding day,” recall D.C. photographers Steve and Jane Pilkerton. “We wanted to create a unique image for the bride that would showcase this custom piece of wearable art.” The duo set up Westcott’s Rapid Box with their off-camera flash and clocked in at f/4 and 1/250th of a second to capture the fine, wispy intricacies of the hat. Framing just below the bride’s eyes, they created a spunky portrait with personality.
