Sunlit in Black and White

Couple Adelina and Andrei are routine travelers. During their recent trip to Iceland, they worked with photographers Olivia & Dan to have a romantic couple’s shoot near Dyrhólaey peninsula. “They were very natural in front of the camera,” Olivia explains. “They had a very organic way of being with each other, and with our 85mm lens, we were able to stand quite far away from the couple so as not to encroach on their space but still convey a sense of being right there with them in the moment.”

The weather was hard to predict on this day, but here, the sunlight was rather harsh. The photography duo decided to use that to their advantage, so they had Adelina’s face turned directly into the sunlight, “almost like she had a spotlight on her,” Olivia says, leaving the rest of her body in shadow. That contrast was accentuated further in post where the image was transformed into black and white, adding more emotion to this clean composition. “We love the simplicity of this frame,” Olivia says. “Yet, you can really feel their embrace—a real, emotional moment between two people was captured. The environment around them is so desolate, which makes their embrace all the more striking.”
