Styled Shoot, Playful Spins

During a styled shoot in Oregon along the Columbia River Gorge, photographer Emily Gigoux asked her model to have fun with this beautiful dress, which was designed with many layers and multiple fabrics. “I wanted to play into the natural movement of the dress, so I had my model spin for me,” Gigoux recalls. “Spinning photos are always so playful and bring out some amazing natural moments, so I try to do them whenever I can.”

Fortunately, the native Oregonian photographer had a vision in mind for the shot and adjusted her settings to ensure she’d capture just the right moment at the right time. “The hardest part of creating a photo when the subject is moving is timing it just right so the shape of the subject is just how you want it,” she says. “For this shoot, that meant taking a lot of photos on rapid-fire in hopes that one of them would turn out exactly how I was envisioning it.”
