Photographer Nina Roland reaped the benefits of total creative freedom at a workshop in Croatia where she captured this moody, feminine portrait of a “pretend” bride. “We had a chance to make a couple of photos by ourselves,” after the lesson, Roland explains. “My idea behind this photo was to capture a silhouette-like image with just slight details in the shadows.”

To “give a sense of motion in stillness,” Roland used a slow shutter speed for this capture, inviting a bit of blur to add to the mood. Roland’s favorite part of this photo is the glimmering lace on the subject’s left shoulder, she says, illuminated by the beautiful natural light streaming into the room.
