Sense of Whimsy

For this image, photographer Lynnsey Phillips (of Seattle-based Lionlady Photography) says the venue (Chateau Lill in Woodinville, Washington) played a huge part because of its elaborate garden and water elements.

“I wanted to not only capture a lovely moment between the couple but also the setting,” she explains. “I waited until after the sun has dipped behind the skyline so that the background would be dark and the subjects light.”

Phillips adds that she didn’t expect this image to be a hit especially because “the twirling shot can be overdone. But because water was separating me and the couple I was forced to shoot wide. I’m a firm believer that restrictions promote creativity. It’s easy to get lost with too many options so the limitations here worked in my favor.” The image went on to be named on one of Huffington Post’s  “Best Wedding Images” list,  which Phillips says was “a wonderful surprise.”
