Photo of the Day
Craig Colvin, a self-taught photographer based in California, is passionate about capturing the human body in unique positions and forms. A fan of both studio work and naturally lit outdoor shoots, Colvin says he’s been working on a project connecting the human body and water, and the latest rendition of this project recently earned him a first-place win in Rangefinder‘s The Body competition.
Shot in The Lighthouse Studio in Oakland, California, Colvin says the concept for this series was to show a body rising out of water. “I love how the surface of the water creates a boundary that hides what is beneath,” he says. “All we see is the what breaks the surface. I love the ability to isolate portions of the human body, which gives it a unique perspective that we don’t normally get to see.”
You can view more from the series in The Body’s online gallery.
(Captured using a Canon 5D Mark II and an EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L lens.)
