Read Between The Lines

As the bride’s father was giving a toast at this wedding in Austin, Texas, photographer Megan Kantor of Cedar and Pines was going about her usual wedding routine, capturing the speech and the reaction of the guests. “But then I noticed the bride and groom were holding hands while they listened,” she explains. Inspired by a sudden urge to capture a different angle, she positioned herself behind the newlyweds and photographed this intimate moment.

Kantor knew she would have a nice composition between the lines created by the hanging string lights and the tiles on the floor, so she framed the couple smack in the center. She didn’t want to add extra flash to the scene, so she bumped her ISO to 6400 and, she says, “embraced the grain in order to capture that soft, warm feel of the evening.”

(Captured using a Canon 5D Mark IV with a 35mm L II lens.)
