Newlyweds Sophie and Dale built their own wedding from the ground up—literally.

“The wedding took place at Sophie’s family home in Devon in southwest England, but work on it began a year prior, when they started re-landscaping the garden to accommodate the marquee that would eventually be erected,” explains photographer Lee Maxwell.

The ceremony was held under a beautiful tree in the garden, and later in the afternoon Maxwell took the couple out for some portraits. “‘Relaxed and real’ was the approach,” he says, “as I got close with my 35mm lens, at f /2; the rest was up to them. This is a beautiful quiet moment in what was a fantastic wedding day.”
