Photographing Summer Vibes with Sunny Perspective

Michaella Jelin-Till of Yellow Bird Visuals was called on to shoot photographs in Las Vegas that the hotel Park MGM could use for their marketing and social media, so she decided to have some fun with it and bring along a friend to help her out and model in some of the sunny, summer-feel shots.

“I was so inspired by all of these green striped umbrellas and chairs they had by the pool and the way the peachy-toned floors looked with them,” she recalls. At one point, “we were sitting by the pool photographing some food and drinks and there was a fleeting moment where the other chairs next to us were empty, and the light was hitting right.”

To get the light, shadows and patterns from the umbrellas in full view, Jelin-Till realized she needed to be higher up. She noticed a lookout above the pool that connected to the monorail, so she ambled up a few flights of stairs to get there and framed the shot she wanted.

“I was so far away that I had to call Lauren to direct her, but it ended up turning into one of my favorite shots from the week,” the photographer says. “I really loved how intimate and calm this image felt in juxtaposition with how Vegas is typically portrayed.”

Photographed with a Canon 5D Mark IV and 85mm lens at f/3.5, 1/8000 sec. and ISO 160. Jelin-Till says she cropped it in “a good bit” to fulfill her vision for the image.
