Nearing the Edge

Just moments before Erin & Geoffrey snapped this shot, they crawled on their stomachs to look over the edge of this cliff and said, “Wow! That must be a 2,000-foot drop!” Actually, no. “Later we realized the trees below, although they looked normal size, were actually giant redwoods,” they say. “We were actually staring down at a more than 8,000-foot drop. The perfect backdrop for a beautiful wedding image!”

The couple, Thad and Caitlin, are also wedding photographers, so it took no convincing on Erin and Geoffrey’s part to get an epic shot. “Caitlin was so eager to go on this ledge to take this photo,” they say, “however, when the moment came, she actually became very nervous about that drop. Of course, we didn’t want them to do anything she would be uncomfortable with, but she was determined, as you can see in the image. We stood on a similar ledge directly across from them and eagerly waited for their approach to the cliff.”

The plan was to take photos once they had gone a little closer to the edge, but with “Thad patiently holding Caitlin’s nervous hand as they walked out,” they knew they shouldn’t waste those moments.

(Shot with a Nikon D750 and Nikon 85mm f/1.4 lens, with live view turned on.)
