Couples with style have a way of sparking inspiration in photographers, say Italian destination shooters Laura and Tommy of Lato Photography (and Rf 30 Rising Stars in 2016). “Kristina and Laurent are a stylish couple,” says the photographing duo, so in addition to capturing some real moments during their engagement shoot around New Zealand’s Waiheke Island, they also tried to approach some of the photos from more of a fashion perspective to match the couple’s good taste.

“This is one of the very last photos we took on that day,” they explain. “We were walking back to the car and, as we always do, we took some portraits using slow shutter speed to give more movement and dynamism to the image. Personally, this is a thing we love to do as we can bring out the realism from a simple image.”

The photographers had an added element of harsh light, which they actually decided to work with to challenge themselves as image-makers. “As wedding photographers, we can say that it is not so expected to have the perfect light, and we deliberately chose to shoot at a ‘not perfect’ time for the light to push us to capture the best pictures we could with the light we had at the moment.”
