Love’s Intensity

French wedding photographer Angelo Lacancellera was incredibly bummed to find out he wasn’t available to shoot this couple’s wedding when they reached out to him. Thrift-shop owners, they’ve collaborated with the photographer in the past for shoots when Lacancellera has needed clothes.

Determined to be involved with their union in some respect, he offered to shoot their portrait “because they have strong personalities and Patrick has a particular look,” Lacancellera explains, “something between sadness and mystery that seems to want to communicate with you.”

The photographer set up this pose, which draws equal focus to their connection and Patrick’s moving expression: “I think his eyes convey all of his past with a lot of shades. I found this really fascinating.”

(Shot with a Leica M typ 240 and 35mm lens at f/2, 1/180 sec. and ISO 100.)
