While it can be unorthodox for a bride to have a man in her bridal party, Ireland-based wedding photographer Darek Novak says this bride always knew her best friend Fergus would be at her side on her wedding day.

Says the bride, Kate, “[Fergus and I] have been dancing and having fun together for over 25 years, so this photo really captures our friendship. He wore pink shorts, a pink bow tie and a white shirt to match the bridesmaids while still bringing in his own unique style… I wore a 50s style ballet-length dress which really brought out my love of retro fashion and the tulle underskirt made it perfect for twirling!

Taken at the Loughcrew House in Ireland, this photo not only captures the bond between the bride and her best friend, Novak says, but, from the photographer’s perspective, it also represents “a mix of luck, the right moment, the right composition and the right setting.” While Novak was setting up, he says he heard some noise and turned to find the bride laughing loudly and Fergus helping her twirl the dress. “My first thought, while simultaneously spotting the four colored balloons over their heads,” says Novak, “was just to run and snap this moment.”

While the groom isn’t in the frame, the bride still tells Rangefinder that “this is one of my favorite shots of the whole weekend!”
