“This image was made at a wedding in Telluride, Colorado, last summer and for me, it’s an example of something I’m trying to do more of in my work,” says destination wedding photographer Corbin Gurkin.

“I love that it has a sense of spontaneity and movement, and in this moment captures the overall energy and joy around that magical autumn day. It’s common in wedding photography to get into the habit of staging moments or posing a couple, but I think that when you can work toward authenticity in your photographs, your work is all the better for it.”

Shot using a Canon 5D Mark III, Gurkin says the image was edited by RDFL in Australia to “match my film from the day. I typically shoot Fuji 400H when I’m not using digital,” she explains. “The time of day is also important—shooting in the couple of hours before dusk really makes a location shine and gives a beautiful sense of place.”
