Husband and wife photography duo Jasmina and Davor were commissioned to shoot a campaign for a local Croatian fashion designer, at an abandoned villa filled with natural light. With a “darkness and moodiness” that inspired them, the location also reminded them of one of their favorite TV dramas, The Handmaid’s Tale, a dystopian story that follows a woman trying to find independence in a patriarchal and misogynist society. The photographers wanted to portray some of the themes from the show in their work.

They placed a single chair sideways near a large window and staged a model in a pensive yet controlled pose. “We wanted to capture the main themes, psychological manipulation and identity loss,” the duo explains, “as well as the notion that we need to reshape our own perception of how we view ourselves.”
