In The Middle of Nowhere

This image, for a “mommy and me” session, unfolded for portrait and landscape photographer Jessica Fey in the middle of a forest in her home state that she never knew existed until she was standing in the middle of it.

“My client had said we were just going to go up to the mountains and look around when she directed me to this spot in Allenspark, Colorado,” Fey explains. “When we saw the chapel, Camp St. Malo, and went inside, we discovered it was built in the 1930s and was blessed by Pope Saint John II.”

The photographer continues: “Beyond the chapel, my other favorite part of the whole experience was seeing a statue of Jesus overlooking the grounds on a hill right above the church. I’ve lived in Colorado my whole life and had never experienced such a spiritual and magical shoot before.”

Of course even such gorgeous natural landscape can use a tweak—or four— for a final image, says Fey. “I photoshopped out the cars and building behind the chapel, removed a water dam, and reconstructed the lake! Totally worth it.”
